Home: Jeffrey Spahn Wood-fired Ceramic Vase

Regular price $55.00 Sale

Each piece of Jeffrey's work is fired in a Japanese-style wood-kiln called an Anagama. Clay pieces are placed inside a fifteen foot tunnel kiln. The kiln is fired entirely with wood by a team of potters, 24 hours a day, for seven days.

The natural glazing results from the delicate balance between different wood varieties, heat dynamics, weather conditions, loading techniques, and clay types. Each piece retains the story of this seven day process in its natural, organic beauty, like an artifact recovered from deep in the earth.

This vase features red oxide tones gradating into dark charcoal, sienna and light gray. Unique texture and substantial weight for the small size- 6 3/4 inches tall, 1 1/8 inch opening, 1 3/4 inches wide at base. A vase unlike anything else for that special occasion.
